The property required immediate site security, debris removal, and interior clearing to allow safe access for continued construction and mitigation activities. The front entry door could not be securely locked, and the garage door opening required full board-up to prevent unauthorized access. The structure also contained extensive debris, contents, and soot-impacted materials throughout the garage, main floor, and upper level, restricting access and posing safety and contamination concerns. Additionally, certain contents required salvage per homeowner request, and mechanical and environmental controls were necessary to stabilize interior conditions.

The front entry door was secured by screwing it shut to ensure the building could be locked. A full board-up was completed over the entire garage door opening (14’ x 8’), including installation of a framed plywood system with a 3-foot walk door to maintain controlled access during construction. The existing garage door was removed and disposed of. Materials utilized included three sheets of plywood, eight 8-foot 2x4s, and three 12-foot 2x4s.

The garage was fully shoveled out and cleared. The interior main floor, including living room and kitchen areas, was bagged, documented with photos and video, and disposed of per instructions. All kitchen cabinets were emptied of contents, including the refrigerator. The dishwasher was emptied of soot-contaminated dishes, which were documented and disposed of. All upstairs rooms were similarly documented, bagged, and cleared. To date, three full loads of debris were transported to the landfill.

Upper-level doors were removed, stripped of hinges and hardware, and all hardware was bagged and labeled in zip-lock bags. The upper level was left fully cleared and ready for carpet and pad removal. No cabinets or vanities were removed pending authorization.

Per homeowner request, all kitchen cabinets and vanities were designated for salvage. These items were scheduled to be removed, ozoned, and returned to the homeowner at a later date for use as garage storage.

Environmental controls were established, including operation of one large hydroxyl generator in the lower level, one large air mover, and one Abestorm air scrubber. An additional Abestorm air scrubber was placed and operating at the top of the stairwell on the upper level.

A dump trailer and contents trailer were placed onsite. The contents trailer was noted to have a malfunctioning manual retractable foot, which did not extend or retract and was documented as a site issue. A crew yard sign was installed. The water main was shut off to prevent further loss exposure. All site conditions, work performed, and progress were thoroughly documented with photographs and video
